A Telugu wedding turns on the muhurtham — the astrologically fixed moment when jeelakarra bellam is placed, often before sunrise, and there is no second take. I photographed and filmed Vyshnavi & Akhil's Telugu wedding, from the haldi water poured from brass pots to the talambralu rice fight that finally lets everyone laugh. The mangalsutra's three knots, the kanyadanam, the toe-rings at the sannikallu — these are specific moments with specific meanings, and I treat them that way.

Can you handle a 6 a.m. muhurtham?
Yes — the muhurtham is fixed and everything else bends around it, including me. I arrive with time to cover the gauri puja and the bride's entrance, already positioned before the screen drops.
Do you know the ritual sequence?
Jeelakarra bellam at the muhurtham, then mangalsutra dharana, then talambralu — I know the order, which means I'm at the right angle before the priest announces anything.
The venue lighting is dim — is that a problem?
Telugu ceremonies often happen under function-hall lighting at dawn. I shoot fast lenses and know how to use the homam fire and the hall's practicals rather than fight them. No flash bursts over the priest's shoulder.
